In a startling midnight encounter, a lion entered a house in Gujarat’s Rajula town, shocking the residents and setting off a frenzy on social media. The wild feline reportedly made its way into the home of Mulubhai Lakhnotra, allegedly entering through the roof in search of prey.
The incident occurred in the dead of night, as the Lakhnotra family lay fast asleep. The lion crept through the rooms and ultimately climbed onto the refrigerator, settling there as if it were just another piece of the jungle. Videos recorded by stunned locals show the big cat lounging on the fridge and inspecting the house with casual ease.
Despite the terrifying proximity to the predator, the entire family remained unharmed. Too stunned to react, they watched in silence as the animal explored their home. “We couldn’t believe what we were seeing. It was surreal. The lion didn’t seem aggressive but we dared not move,” said a family member, recounting the event.
The unusual visitor stayed for a brief time before leaving the premises on its own, reportedly without harming any humans or pets. Forest officials believe the lion may have wandered into the town while chasing smaller prey and found itself trapped in a human dwelling.
This incident has once again raised concerns about increased human-wildlife interactions in Gujarat, particularly near the Gir forest region, which is home to the Asiatic lion population. Experts point to rapid urbanization, shrinking forest corridors, and prey scarcity as major factors behind such encounters.
The forest department has since launched an investigation and is reviewing CCTV footage from nearby homes. The family is safe, but visibly shaken. Wildlife teams are monitoring the area to ensure the lion does not return.
